Doi Mae Salong

Doi Mae Salong is a mountain in Mae Fa Luang District where are the most diference ethnics in Thailand. Doi Mae Salong is settled by Santikeeree village a community of Burmese migrants from division 93 in Myanmar to Thailand in 1961. In the past, the division 93 moved from China to Myanmar in world War 2 period and they had to fight with Burmese soldiers too. 

 

       Because of this reasons they had to move down to Thailand on Doi Mae Salong area. Thai goverment allowed this community could stay in Thailand as this soldiers volunteered to join with Thai army to figth with Communist Terrorist around Doi Luang, Doi Yao, Doi Pha Mon until even situation in 1969 and they had become Thai citizenship in 1972.

       Almost of them were in agriculture. In 1973, General Kriengsak Chamanun, there was a project to start growing tea instead of losing forest on Doi Mae Salong. He brought the good tea original from Taiwan and planted after that oolong tea had become the best tea around Thailand and there are many plantations include; factory and shop along the street of the village. 

 

      Tourist attactions on Doi Mae Salong, in December to February the during of pink cherry blossoms the smallest variety of Sakura full bloom along the way up to Doi Mae Salong. The charming of doi Mae Salong almost the rich in mountainiose and vallays as the weather average between 4-6 degree celsius in the winter season. This are is high hill about 1,200 meters. The norht of Doi Mae Salong bounded by Mae Salong Nai Sub- District in Mae Fa Luang District, the south bounded by Pa Tung Sub- District in Mae Chan District, the east bounded by Pa sang Sub- District in Mae Chan District and the west bounded by Myanmar. In addition, the attractions include; The Pagoda of SriNakarindhara Sathit MahaSantikiri the place where is stay on 1,500 meters altitude 

 

north side of Santikiri village. This is a very beautiful pagoda with Lanna Architecture style for giving to Her majesty Srinakarin. Because this is located on the high mountain we can see view in panoramic around of Doi Mae Salong. In addition, there are many types of tribe such as Chinese, Tai Yai, Akha, Lahu, Mian, Lesu and Lua that we can see and touch in various of cultures, traiditions and lifestyles the attraction of them. 

 

        There are 2 routes to Doi Mae Salong by car; the new route, you can use the main street highway No.10 from Chiang Rai to Mae Chan District about 29 km. Then turn left to Highway No.1089(Mae Chan-Tha Ton) and at the km. post no.55 turn right. After that follow the curve road about 15 km. you will get to the village on Doi Mae Salong. So this way total about 75 km.

       Another is the old route, after you use the main street Highway No. 10 through Mae Chan district about 1 km. turn left follow the sign all the way to Doi Mae Salong till you found the km. post No.10 there are a junction close to Development and Accommodation Hill Tribes turn left follow the highway N0. 1234 about 25 km. past Baan E-Koh at the junction on km. post N0.9 turn left again for 16 km. However this way is narrow but there are hilltribe villages along the way.
